Glossary Term
Fulfillment Center
A large-scale warehouse where incoming inventory is stored, picked, packed, and shipped to the final customer.
The Heart of the Operation
A fulfillment center is not just a warehouse; it’s a high-tech machine. Amazon operates hundreds of these hubs globally. When an order is placed, a robot (or a person) "picks" the item from the shelf, a "packer" puts it in a box, and it’s shipped out within hours. For this to work, every single item must have a perfect, scannable barcode.
The Receiving Process
When your inventory arrives at a fulfillment center, it goes through "Receive." This is where workers scan your box labels and FNSKUs. If your labels are blurry, too small, or poorly placed, your products will be sent to "Sideline" for manual inspection, which can delay your sales by weeks.
- High-speed, automated environments.
- Strict rules for label placement and scannability.
- Critical link in the "Prime" delivery promise.
