Glossary Term
Walmart Item Number (WIN)
Walmart's internal identification number used to track and manage products across its retail and online platforms.
The 'ASIN' of Walmart
Just like Amazon uses ASINs, Walmart uses the WIN (Walmart Item Number). It’s an internal 9-digit code that Walmart assigns to every product in its catalog. Even if a product has a UPC, Walmart’s internal systems prefer the WIN for tracking inventory and pricing.
Finding Your WIN
You can find the WIN in your Walmart Seller Center dashboard or in the product's URL on Walmart.com. It’s essential for communication with Walmart support; if you have a problem with a listing, they will always ask for the WIN first to find your item in their huge database.
- 9-digit unique internal number.
- Used for both in-store and online products.
- Crucial for inventory reconciliation.
WIN vs. GTIN
The GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) is the barcode you see on the package. The WIN is just a digital number in Walmart’s software. When you send items to Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS), you usually label them with the GTIN, but the system links that GTIN to your WIN automatically.
Inventory Management
When you are looking at your sales reports or stock levels in Walmart, everything will be organized by the WIN. It’s the primary key that connects your sales, your returns, and your storage fees in the Walmart ecosystem.
